The back and forth action on the winnings explains the two contradictory headlines I’m seeing regarding poker news. The folks over at RTG, an US run new source are reporting that Viktor “Isildur1” Blom won $150,000 from Daniel “kidpoker” Negreanu. While over at Bluff Magazine the headline is that Negreanu beat Blom. But Bluff is out of the UK so a bit ahead of the US on poker news on a Monday morning. Which is why I always check with Bluff every morning before the US market as started writing the stories and sharing the news. Besides, I’m an Isildur1 fan. That really has nothing to do with poker but goes back to a long standing love of Tolkien. Even though Isildur1 reports that really his choice of name had nothing to do with a love of Tolkien. But even so, he’s provided me with many hours of wonderful Tolkien analogies in my poker writing, so I’m glad he’s gone pro and will be sticking around a while for me to write about.
But for this stoy. The two poker pros sat down for some online poker play. See, this is a great benefit of online poker. Two pros – one established, another still considered an upstart neer, can sit down at any time for some great poker play. No travel required. At first Blom took the lead, grabbing $150,000 of Negreanu’s money. But Negreanu wanted a rematch and apparently skipped the Wynn Classic to prepare for it. Kidpoker was determined to teach the Tolkien-monikered poker kid a lesson. (At just 20 years of age, Isildur1 really is more qualified for the “kid” tag than Negreanu is.) And in the rematch Negreanu prevailed for a little over $25,000 in profit. But Viktor Blom is showing signs of maturing as a player and offered congrats to hispetitor. Negreanu however admits to a bit of a temper tantrum and breaking things when he was losing. Perhaps Negreanu isn’t ready to step out of the “kid” part of being kidpoker.
