Six more co-sponsors have been named for Joe Barton’s HR2366 online poker bill. One, Nevada representative Joe Heck, is a Republican with the other five Democrats. The other new co-sponsors are Eliot Engel and Steve Israel (both New York), Bob Filner and Lynn Woolsey (both California), and Mike Capuano (Massachusetts). Three co-sponsors for the bill had been announced on 12 July, although one of the existing co-sponsors, Ron Paul, is set to retire from Congress in 2012.
The amount bet on sports in France has dropped by more than one third in the last six months, according to an annual review from the country’s regulatory authority ARJEL. €741m has been bet on sports in the last year, with only €293m of that coming since January. The pattern has not been replicated in horse betting, however, with €496m bet since January out of €955m total, or in cash poker where the figures are €3.77bn and €7.48bn respectively.
Betfair has made a ‘significant’ update to its iPhone and iPad apps, the betting exchange announced today. The company has also updated its ‘Betfair touch’ web app to enhance its in-play function, among other elements. Betfair’s native iPhone app – available from the app store – now includes features for loss and deposit limits, in line with the company’s recent customer commitment.
William Hill will continue as the betting partner of the Scottish Premier League (SPL) after signing a new three-year deal. The company’s CEO Ralph Topping, whose contract was recently extended until 2013, is also non-executive chairman of the SPL.
Genting Casinos, a subsidiary of Malaysian online and land-based gambling company Genting Group, has been revealed as the new shirt sponsor of English football club Aston Villa. The new club shirt was revealed this week, and the deal will run until the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season.
Jaxx Group brand MyBet.com has been given a sportsbetting licence in Belgium. The licence currently only applies to retail outlets, but Jaxx expects it to be extended to cover online operations when the EU member state opens up its egaming market.
