Ive been keeping an eye on the action over at the World Series of Poker. Yes, there is plenty of good action, some expected winners and some new winners. But then theres the fun part the gossip. So heres my quick weekly rundown on the World Series of Poker that has been the most fun for me.
Phil Ivey was the big news before the tournament started with his refusal to play based on the problems Full Tilt Poker is having paying back players. But this week the Phil in the news was Phil Hellmuth and once again it was for his WSOP poker entrance. Though not for the usual reasons. This year instead of his highly staged entrances, Phil showed up in average poker attire. Then he didnt show up. Oops. Phil thought he was playing on Tuesday instead of Monday and folks on the poker room floor watched Phils stack slowly dwindle as the blinds circle around. Phil managed to rush in 5 hours and 5,000 chips late.
But he wasnt the only one with a dwindling chip stack. Another player, Carter Gill, was banned from Caesars properties after tossing a young womans clothes out of a window in an earlier visit. Since hed already registered for the WSOP before the ban his chair played while he tried to get someone to lift the ban. Unfortunately his chair wasnt a very good player and he was blinded out of the tournament.
Oh, and there was only one male in the WSOP Ladies Event this year. Now the WSOP hosts a ladies event but doesnt have a specific restriction against male players in the event. So, heres a big thank you to all the guys who let the ladies have their day.
