A look back at Day 25 of the 2011 WSOP: 3 bracelets handed out

It was a busy day at the Rio on Friday, with three WSOP bracelets handed out to surprise, surprise first time winners! Not to mention that four other tournaments were in action, making Friday, June 24, 2011 one of the busiest days thus far the 2011 WSOP – so forgive me if some of these wrap-ups are on the short side, some as simple headlines!

Lakhitov wins Russias second bracelet at the 2011 WSOP after overcoming Thomas Middletons huge chip lead.

Strong Suit Set To Step Up

Champion trainer Richard Hannon is seriously considering stepping up his impressive Jersey Stakes winner Strong Suit to a mile for the first time in his career and bidding for the prestigious Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly on July 3, writes Elliot Slater.

Hannon famously won the race 12 months ago with the smart Dick Turpin, and having seen Strong Suit return to his best to win at Royal Ascot for the second year running (he landed the 2010 Coventry Stakes as a juvenile), the veteran handler is fairly confident that the son of Rahy is ready to try an extra furlong having come through a breathing operation with flying colours prior to his defeat of Codemaster in the Jersey Stakes.

Jason Mercier wins his second WSOP bracelet!

The American poker pro Jason Mercier has done it again! Today, he took home the $5k Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha Championship and laid hands on the first prize of $619,575 and his second WSOP gold bracelet! Mercier had to overcome a strong field totaling 507 entrants, and it was the most impressive tournament win of his career. Mercier has cashed 18 times at the World Series of Poker – more than $1.5 million won! In total, he has more than $6 million in live tournament earnings.

 

   

WSOP weekly round up

Phil Hellmuth is once again the big story at the World Series of Poker this week. After finishing runner up to John Juanda in the $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship, Hellmuth once again came tantalisingly close to bracelet number 12 but fell just short.

The Poker Brat battled his way through a stacked 168-runner field in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Split 8 or Better Championship to set up a heads up encounter with the 26-year-old banker Eric Rodawig. The semi-pro from Dakota had the chip lead from the start and didn’t relinquish that advantage leaving Hellmuth the bridesmaid once again. Read full post…

Another US poker bill makes a stand

It seems that while Texas may be a conservative state, when ites to laws, you dont mess with poker.  Really, it only makes sense that Texans would be in favor of poker which is still widely considered a mans game and a game of skill where the ability to take risks can pay off.  Its a Texas sort of game. Phil Ivey breaks silence, sues Full Tilt – reports Gaming Intelligence
