Alexander Kuzmin entered the final table as chip leader, but many pointed to Allen Carter (second largest stack and the chance to be the first player ever to win the very same WPT Tournament twice) as the favorite to take down the tournament. Carter played fantastic poker on the final table and was massive chip leader with just a few players left. But then he doubled up Force, who also had a big stack, and started getting unlucky in several hands.
It didn’t take long before Carter was short stacked and also very frustrated as he started complaining and whining about Leif Force playing bad and that he should “buy a lotto ticket”.

Brace yourself. I am an ESPN employee, home of the WSOP on ESPN, and one of my favorite shows on TV was GSN’s High Stakes Poker.
Note the past tense on that last line. I didn’t say “is”, but “was”. Well, it’s not definite, but I’m sure you’re wondering why the change of heart. I’ll explain by sharing the major changes that were announced regarding the upcoming season of HSP that begins later this month:
1) GSN announced on Monday that Gabe Kaplan is out as host and has been replaced by Norm MacDonald. Note that it is the network that dictates talent on a show, not the production team, so the look and feel will most definitely be the same, if not better in 2011.
A busy January concluded with two of the biggest events on the poker calendar crowning champions and new millionaires.
The Aussie Millions main event final table featured some prominent stars in the game in Patrik Antonius and Chris Moorman, but it was Australian David Gorr taking down the title and $1.9 million.
Gorr has been on the Australian poker scene since 1998 with results totaling less than $200,000. He’s played in smaller events, making numerous final tables, but yet never notched a victory until this weekend. The event, held at the Crown Casino in Melbourne is Gorr’s “home” casino which made the victory even sweeter.
“The whole thing is unbelievable,” said Gorr to PokerNews after his victory.
Aputer hacker from Devon is facing a jail sentence after admitting to stealing chips from virtual poker site and Facebook favourite Zynga. 29-year-old Ashley Mitchell from Devon appeared at Exeter Crown Court this week and admitted five counts of hacking as well as asking for a further 41 offences to be taken into consideration.
Mitchell hacked into Zynga’s website, transferred 400 billion gaming chips, then sold them on the black market for an alleged £53,000 profit. Mitchell faces a substantial jail term for what judge Philip Wassall described as ‘sophisticated’ offences.
Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom has been running extremely good at PokerStars in the past few days. He has especially been doing well in heads-up matches (No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha) against Phil Galfond and Ashton Griffin.
In total Isildur1 has won $660,000 since Sunday and he’s also one of PokerStars most successful players this year. Let’s hope that his winning streak continues and that we soon get to watch some more thrilling battles at PokerStars nosebleed tables!
Huy Nguyen has won the WSOP Circuit Main Event at Choctaw, after overcoming a huge field of 808 players over three days to collect the WSOPC winners ring, as well as the $232,706 first place prize.
The $1,600 buy-in main event attracted a whole host of top pros to the tournament to create an impressive prize-pool worth $1,175,640. Amongst the notable names attracted to the Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma were such players as Tom McEvoy, TJ Cloutier, Berry Johnston, Tommy Vedes and Allen Kessler.
After just the first day of play, the large field had been reduced to 174 players and a couple of hours into Day 3, and the final table of nine had been set.
Leading the pack at the final table was eventual winner Huy Nguyen on 4.12 million chips with a short-stacked Traci Brown on just 490k.
