Move over Phil Laak, because I have a feeling that during the last 59 days Andrew Li -better known as ‘azntracker’ at the PokerStars online poker table-may have bested your record of 115 straight hours of poker! The reason I say this is because Li has just set the record for the fastest person to attain Supernova Elite at PokerStars -managing the feat in just 2 months!
Li surpassed the 1,000,000 VPP threshold needed to achieve Supernova Elite on February 28th, besting the old record by 19 days -the previous mark was set by George ‘jorj95′ Lind who achieved Supernova Elite on march 18. Amazing
I ended up getting food at North Woods Inn, my all time favorite restaurant. Came back to play 100-200 stud and ran badly, losing somewhere over $3k. Game was great but lots of my two pairs lost and my only three of a kind or better was folded (correctly) on 7th street.
Saturday was the WPT Invitational day, always an excellent time. I had to drive to my Mom’s place to pick up my dress shoes I left there after waking up, spent the afternoon playing online and drinking wine, and met up with a bunch of the cool kids to pre party. The night became a blur as it should, I busted with a couple minutes left in the day, and that ended up costing me about $4k. <
As most of the United States celebrated an extended weekend, it was anything but a quiet time for the poker industry. Here’s a look around the felt:
World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational
One of the coolest events of the year takes place every February at the L.A. Poker Classic — the WPT Celebrity Invitational. It isn’t the typical WPT event that boasts only top tier fields with the best in the game. Instead, we find tables full of celebrities, athletes, well-known players and some members of the industry who get their one chance per year to leave their mark on the felt. Tons of fun is had in this quick-structured event, but the most important part is that $100,000 was donated to charity.
You know the drill, get a friend to drop your name when signing up or joining a service and you can expect receive some vouchers or free stuff from the company concerned. These type of refer a friend schemes are increasingly common throughout the world of commerce with Marks and Spencer and Sky being just two of the many high profile companies engaging in this sort of promotion.
Well, now the ‘refer a friend’ fever has even reached online casinos, thanks to PartyGaming. Pla
In California they’re working on proposed legislation to allow online poker within the state, a proposal that still leaves some poker players dissatisfied but it’s light years ahead of the state of online poker in Washington state. After all, in Washington State playing poker online is a federal offence. And in New Jersey, legislation to legalize and regulate online gambling has already passed the state legislature but has faced a delay in getting the final sign off from the governor. And now Florida is entering the race to legalizing online gambling.
In Florida, legislation has been proposed that could result in legalize online poker by July 1st. The summer date could push Florida ahead of both California and New Jersey in allow residents to play poker for real money online. So what would make the difference in Florida? Well, the state faces a budget deficit that it needs to make up, but so do many other states. But in Florida, lawmakers are admitting that many residents already gamble online and play poker online. Florida knows it isn’t going to stop them but that legalizing and regulating online poker would allow them to try to protect those players. Of course it would also allow them to collect money from those players. So poker players will get to play poker and the state will get some much needed revenue.
Of course, Florida does have one thing inmon with New Jersey. Florida has a Republican governor. And if that gove
